10 reasons why people love Newburgh Golf Club

The Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club is one of the finest link courses in Aberdeenshire and is well recognised for its outstanding course conditions – perfect for both beginners and seasoned golf professionals.

In this blog post, we’ve shared our top 10 reasons why our course is loved by both its members and visitors, from the spectacular views and friendly staff to the rich club history and broad selection of membership options…

  1. Spectacular views

Golf is an excellent form of escapism and is one of the many reasons why people enjoy playing the game. If you’ve had a stressful day at work or are looking to unwind after a long week, playing a round of golf is the perfect way to relax.

Situated on the Aberdeenshire coastline, Newburgh Golf Club commands peaceful surroundings coupled with breathtaking views of the river Ythan estuary, Newburgh Beach and Forvie sand dunes – the crisp coastal air and peace of the seaside make it the ultimate place to escape to after a busy day.

Alternatively, you can enjoy the incredible views from the comfort and warmth of the nearby View Restaurant, Lounge and Bar which has superb views of the course. Tuck into a delicious meal and refreshing drink after playing a round or sit back and relax as your friends and family take on the course.

  1. Unique layout

Described as a ‘hidden gem’ the course follows a unique layout as the 18 hole course is split into two sections of 9. The first 9 holes have a more modern feel about them, filled with tiered greens and surrounded by rugged landscape while the second 9 holes showcase the true brilliance of a traditional Scottish links course. The 16th hole may be recognised as the shortest on the course but definitely packs a punch. With the beach located to the left and an ominous bunker lurking on the right, this hole leaves little room for error.

  1. Friendly and knowledgeable staff

At Newburgh Golf Club, we pride ourselves on having a fantastic team of passionate and knowledgeable staff. Without their hard work and dedication to the club and sport – the current success of the course would not be possible.

Our team are always trying to make sure that our members and guests feel welcome and comfortable at the club. Whether you’re looking to find out more about the course or deciding what to pick out from our Club Shop, our team are always happy to help.

  1. Rich club history

Despite not being the oldest course in Scotland, our course holds a rich and impressive history. Originally founded in 1888 by John Udny, the course only comprised of 9 holes which totalled 401 yards, this was later expanded to 18 holes in 1994 taking the total yardage to 6423.

There is something very special about being able to identify the origins and expansion of a course. Understanding and seeing how the course was shaped over a number of decades allows you to appreciate the level of intricacy and determination that went into creating the

course.

  1. Firm fairways and greens

One of the things that members love most about the course is its impressive fairways and greens. Filled with punch bowl greens, firm fairways and a multitude of blind shots, this course combines the perfect balance of precision and skill. No matter if you’re a beginner or professional, this fantastic 18 hole course is catered to suit all abilities.

  1. Unmatched club facilities

It’s not just the fantastic course that draws people to our club, the range of excellent facilities is one of the many reasons why people love playing here. From the award-winning clubhouse that boasts incredible coastal views and an impressive Club Shop to the two netted practice bays and putting green, there are plenty of facilities for all age ranges to explore.

  1. Social events

The social element is a large part of the game of golf – providing individuals with the opportunity to spend quality time with friends and work colleagues or meet new people who have a common interest. One of the great beauties of golf is that it can be played by all ages, giving an outlet for people to interact with one another regardless of age.

At Newburgh Golf Club, our team work hard to organise a number of social events throughout the year including championship events, local club tournaments and winter leagues.

  1. Supporting local

We are proud to have a unique club which has been shaped and crafted by generations of local members, from Newburgh and beyond. It was these local legends coupled with the current and upcoming generations which have given our club the character and charm that it has today.

The unexpected circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic have emphasised the importance of supporting local. Our members love playing at our course as we harbour a great sense of local pride and community, the long-standing history of the club is a testament to its value within the local town of Newburgh.

  1. A vast range of membership options

We pride ourselves on having a vast selection of memberships suited for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a youngster inspired to take up a new sport or a retiree looking to find a new hobby to fill your spare time – there is sure to be something to suit your lifestyle and needs.
